A road tunnel under the Świna strait, connecting the islands of Uznam and Wolin in Świnoujście — the city's first fixed road connection with the rest of the country, replacing the previous ferry crossings. The section bored by a TBM machine is nearly 1,500 m long. The investor was the City of Świnoujście with the support of GDDKiA; the total value of the investment amounted to PLN 913.8 million, with EU co-financing of PLN 775.6 million from the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment (POIiŚ). Work began in the autumn of 2019, and the tunnel was opened to traffic on 30 June 2023 — about a year later than the originally announced autumn of 2022.

Significance

The tunnel eliminated Świnoujście's dependence on ferry crossings as the only connection of the left-bank part of the city (the island of Uznam) with the rest of the country — the drive through the tunnel takes about two minutes. The crossing is heavily used: in the three years since its opening (up to June 2026), more than 15.1 million journeys were recorded, and 2025 was a record year with more than 5.2 million vehicles.
