Expansion of Warsaw Chopin Airport (Terminal A)
The reconstruction and modernisation of the Frédéric Chopin Airport in Warsaw (Okęcie), as a result of which the former Terminal 1 – with its characteristic beetroot-coloured roof – was integrated with the newer part of the terminal into a single facility named Terminal A. The reconstruction of the old part of the terminal began in September 2012, after the Euro 2012 football championships, and was carried out over approx. 2.5 years, until April 2015; the modernised part was brought into use in May 2015. The facility has seven storeys with an area of 60,000 m², with 48 check-in desks and 6 self-service desks; after being joined with the previously used part, the whole Terminal A has approx. 154,500 m², and its capacity was assessed at approx. 20 million passengers per year. The investment cost approx. PLN 400 million net and was partly financed with European Union funds (Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2007–2013). The general contractor was a consortium of HOCHTIEF Polska and HOCHTIEF Solutions AG. The airport is managed by the state enterprise "Porty Lotnicze" (PPL).

Significance
The modernised Terminal A became the main and most modern passenger terminal of Chopin Airport – the largest airport in Poland – with a capacity assessed at approx. 20 million passengers per year. The expansion provided a direct, underground connection between the arrivals hall and the Warszawa Lotnisko Chopina railway station, increased the number of check-in desks and security control points, and made a glazed viewing terrace available. Photovoltaic cells with an area of approx. 7,000 m² were installed on the roof of the modernised part. The investment, carried out by the HOCHTIEF consortium, was awarded the title of Construction of the Year.
