A comprehensive railway programme in Małopolska, comprising the construction of approx. 58 km of an entirely new railway line connecting Podłęże with Tymbark and Mszana Dolna, as well as the modernisation and electrification of approx. 75 km of the existing line No. 104 Chabówka – Nowy Sącz. The investor is PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A., and delivery has been divided into many sections handed over in stages. On the new line, among other things, two tunnels (approx. 3.8 km and approx. 1 km) have been designed on the Szczyrzyc – Tymbark section, where works are to be completed by mid-2029. The first modernised section, Chabówka – Rabka Zaryte, was put into service in December 2025, and further stretches are under construction and in tender. The programme's aim is to shorten travel times from Krakow towards Podhale and the Nowy Sącz region. The total value of the investment is estimated at approx. PLN 17 billion, with completion of the whole planned by the end of 2030.

Significance

The Podłęże – Piekiełko programme is one of the largest railway investments currently under way in Poland and is set to fundamentally change transport accessibility in southern Małopolska. The new line and the modernised line No. 104 are to shorten rail travel times from Krakow towards Nowy Sącz and Podhale and, after years, to restore passenger traffic on some sections. The staged handover of stretches, starting with the Chabówka – Rabka Zaryte section in December 2025, gradually gives residents faster and electrified connections. The construction of Poland's longest railway tunnels on the Szczyrzyc – Tymbark route is one of the most technically demanding elements of the entire undertaking.
