Warsaw Metro Line III — Stage I (Praga-Południe, Stadion Narodowy – Gocław)

The first section of Warsaw's third metro line (M3), the so-called Praga section, is to connect the existing Stadion Narodowy station with Gocław in Praga-Południe. The planned route comprises seven stations (Stadion Narodowy plus six new ones: Dworzec Wschodni, Mińska, Rondo Wiatraczna, Ostrobramska, Jana Nowaka-Jeziorańskiego, Gocław) and is approx. 8.1 km long. In March 2024, a contract for design work was signed, which is to be completed in 2027; the city announces a tender for the contractor in 2027, the start of construction in 2028 and completion in 2032. Implementation depends on securing EU or government funding.

Significance

The Praga section of the M3 is intended to improve transport accessibility of the densely populated Praga-Południe, including the Gocław area, which has so far lacked rapid rail transport. According to the city's declarations, a metro journey from Gocław to the center (Świętokrzyska station) is to take approx. 17 minutes, shortening travel time and relieving the existing tram and bus network.
