Expansion of the A2 motorway along a section with a total length of 92 km between the Łódź Północ junction and the Konotopa junction near Warsaw, of which 89 km involves adding extra traffic lanes. The investment is carried out by GDDKiA in four sections; the first contract, for the Grodzisk Mazowiecki–Konotopa section (17.2 km), was concluded with Strabag for nearly PLN 257 million. The estimated cost of the entire undertaking is nearly PLN 1.5 billion.

Significance

Expanding one of the most heavily loaded routes in the country with an additional traffic lane in each direction is intended to increase the capacity of the Łódź–Warsaw corridor. During the works, two traffic lanes will remain available on each carriageway, and the speed on the sections covered by the works will be reduced. The expanded stretch is intended to be the country's first energy-self-sufficient motorway.
