A multi-year investment programme of Górnośląskie Towarzystwo Lotnicze SA (GTL SA) for Katowice Airport in Pyrzowice for the years 2024–2032, with an estimated cost of approx. PLN 1.8 billion. The largest project is the construction of a two-storey main passenger terminal with an area of approx. 49,000 m² (with the possibility of expansion to approx. 72,000 m²); after completion of the first phase, the airport's total terminal infrastructure area is to reach 96,000 m², and the target capacity is to be approx. 10 million passengers per year. The programme also includes a second cargo terminal in the cargo zone and a tunnel approx. 270 m long connecting the new terminal with the "Pyrzowice Lotnisko" railway station. The selection of the designer for the main terminal is being conducted through a tender procedure (six architectural firms and consortia have qualified for further negotiations).

Significance

The programme is intended to adapt the capacity of Poland's second-largest regional airport to growing traffic: in 2026, approx. 7.5 million travellers are expected to use Katowice Airport's route network, and the target terminal infrastructure (96,000 m²) is to allow the handling of approx. 10 million passengers per year. The new main terminal, the second cargo terminal and integration with rail via the tunnel to the "Pyrzowice Lotnisko" station are intended to strengthen the airport's role as a multimodal passenger-and-freight hub for southern Poland.
