Significance
Warsaw-Modlin Airport became the second airport serving the Warsaw metropolitan area and the main national base for low-cost airlines (including Ryanair and Wizz Air), relieving Chopin Airport in the low-cost segment. Opened on 7 July 2012, with a capacity set at 3–3.5 million passengers per year, the airport quickly approached its capacity limit: in 2023 it handled 3,400,967 passengers, and in 2024 — 2,794,464 passengers. The high level of terminal utilization became the basis for plans to expand it to serve 7–8 million passengers per year.
