Warsaw Agglomeration Ring Road (A50/S50)

A planned outer road ring around the entire Warsaw agglomeration, made up of two routes: the A50 motorway (southern part, approx. 98 km) and the S50 expressway (northern part, approx. 165 km), with a total length of approx. 263 km in the preferred variant. The investment is being prepared by GDDKiA; in 2021 it was designated as an investment accompanying the Central Communication Port and is intended to divert transit traffic away from Warsaw. The route is at an early stage of preparation — following the corridor study, project documentation (STEŚ) is being commissioned for successive sections. The estimated cost was put at approx. PLN 7.5 billion for the A50 and approx. PLN 10.9 billion for the S50 (together approx. PLN 18.4 billion). Ultimately, the entire route is intended to be available by 2035, with the first segments around the turn of 2027 and 2028.

Significance

The Warsaw Agglomeration Ring Road would be the longest road ring in Poland (approx. 263 km) and the capital's second, outer ring road — distinct from the existing inner Warsaw Southern Ring Road (S2). Its purpose is to take over transit traffic bypassing Warsaw and to connect the planned Central Communication Port with the national road network. Given its scale (approx. PLN 18 billion for the A50 and S50 routes alone), the early stage of preparation, and shifting political conditions, its realisation remains uncertain; the first segments could be built at the earliest around the turn of 2027 and 2028.
