Bzie-Dębina is a coking coal mine belonging to Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW), located in Jastrzębie-Zdrój. It was officially opened on 25 September 2019 as the first new coal mine launched in Poland since 1994. Target annual output was planned at approximately 2 million tonnes of strategic coking coal, and total investment outlays through 2033 were estimated at approximately PLN 3 billion. After surveying the deposit, JSW acknowledged that the originally assumed output level of 2.5 million tonnes per year would not be achieved, and the Bzie mining operation was incorporated into the combined Borynia-Zofiówka-Bzie mine.

Significance

The mine was the first new coal extraction facility launched in Poland since 1994 and was intended to give JSW access to deposits of strategic coking coal. After surveying the deposit, JSW reported that the originally assumed output level of 2.5 million tonnes per year could not be achieved. The Bzie operation was incorporated into the combined Borynia-Zofiówka-Bzie mine, where coking coal has been extracted from an operational longwall since June 2023.
