A new plant for the hydrotreatment of vegetable oils (HVO) at the ORLEN production facility in Płock, commissioned on 25 May 2026. Its capacity is approximately 300 thousand tonnes of biocomponents per year, produced from feedstocks including rapeseed oil and used cooking oil (UCO). The value of the investment exceeded PLN 800 million. Commissioning the plant increases the ORLEN Group's total biofuel production potential to approximately 700 thousand tonnes per year, with an announced increase to 1.1 million tonnes by 2030.

Significance

The plant reduces the ORLEN Group's dependence on imported biocomponents and supports the achievement of transport decarbonization targets – the National Indicative Target (set at 10 percent for 2026) and EU RED III requirements. Production of HVO biofuel from local agricultural and waste feedstocks is intended to lower greenhouse gas emissions by at least 65 percent relative to conventional fuels, while building a domestic value chain based on Polish agriculture.
