HyperPIC (full name: "Photonic integrated circuits for mid-infrared applications") is a flagship Polish project to build domestic capacity for the production of photonic integrated circuits, carried out by the GPW-listed company VIGO Photonics from Ożarów Mazowiecki near Warsaw. Through the project, VIGO is to become the world's first manufacturer of photonic integrated circuits for the mid-infrared (MIRPIC). The project received funding from NCBR under the European Funds for a Modern Economy (FENG) and the IPCEI Microelectronics/Communication Technologies mechanism in the amount of approx. PLN 453.7 million, with eligible costs of approx. PLN 878.6 million. Construction of the new plant, estimated at approx. one billion zlotys, is to begin in early 2027, with the start of series production planned for after 2029. The entire undertaking is scheduled for 2023–2030.

Significance

The project aims to build in Poland the world's first production chain for photonic integrated circuits for the mid-infrared (MIRPIC), strengthening domestic and European competencies in microelectronics and semiconductors under IPCEI. VIGO Photonics plans to expand its team from the current more than 200 to approx. 450–500 employees by 2030, creating about 300 new, highly specialized jobs, and the technology is to find application in many industrial sectors and consumer electronics.
