Głogów Głęboki-Przemysłowy (deposit access program, shafts GG-1/GG-2/Retków)

under construction stage: construction
9.0 bn PLN
programme budget (multi-year) · data from 2025 ≈ 9.0 bn PLN (value-by-stage, est., nominal) funding: Total estimated outlay of PLN 7.5–9 billion for three priority mining shafts GG-2 (Odra), Retków and Gaworzyce; the cost of a single shaft was previously specified at PLN 2.5–3 billion (KGHM, via Parkiet, 2025)

The deposit access program in the Głogów Głęboki-Przemysłowy (GG-P) mining area comprises the construction of new KGHM Polska Miedź mining shafts: the GG-1 ventilation shaft in Kwielice (Grębocice commune) and the priority downcast shafts serving material-handling and personnel-descent functions — GG-2 (Odra) in the Słone area (Żukowice commune), Retków (Grębocice commune) and Gaworzyce. The GG-P deposit holds nearly 227 million tonnes of copper ore with an average grade of about 2.48% Cu, lying at depths reaching about 1,385 m, corresponding to roughly one-fifth of KGHM's copper reserves in Polish concession areas. The GG-1 shaft reached a depth of 1,348 m and in 2023 connected with the workings of the ZG Rudna mine, with completion of its surface works expected in 2029. KGHM estimates the total outlay for the three priority shafts (GG-2 Odra, Retków and Gaworzyce) at PLN 7.5–9 billion. It is the largest deposit-access investment in European non-ferrous metal ore mining.

Significance

Access to the GG-P deposit is crucial for maintaining and increasing domestic copper output. In the peak production period (estimated at 2028–2035), the area is to deliver 10–11 million tonnes of ore and about 200,000–220,000 tonnes of electrolytic copper per year and sustain the planned production level for 20–30 years. The new shafts provide access to the deepest, industrial portions of the deposit, underpinning Poland's long-term raw-material security and the maintenance of jobs in the Copper Basin in Lower Silesia.
