Northvolt battery systems plant in Gdańsk (Northvolt Dwa)
An energy storage systems (BESS) production plant launched by the Swedish group Northvolt in the Stogi district of Gdańsk, on Andruszkiewicza Street. At the time of its opening in 2023, it was presented as the largest factory of its kind in Europe, with a target capacity of around 6 GWh per year and employment reaching nearly 300 people. Following Northvolt's bankruptcy, production was ended and the facility was taken over by the American company Lyten.
The battery systems plant in Gdańsk fell victim to the financial crisis of the Northvolt group. On 21 November 2024, the company filed for creditor protection under Chapter 11 in the United States, and on 12 March 2025 its bankruptcy was declared in Sweden. Northvolt ended production activity in Gdańsk (announced 22 November 2024, nearly a year after the plant's launch), and the facility was sold to the American company Lyten — the transaction was finalized in October 2025.

Significance
The plant was to be one of the pillars of the European energy storage supply chain — the largest BESS factory on the continent, with a facility of approx. 25,000 m², a target capacity of up to 6 GWh per year and employment reaching nearly 300 people. The financial collapse of the Northvolt group cut short these plans: some jobs were eliminated, and the plant's strategic potential passed under the control of a foreign investor (Lyten), which announced a resumption of production.
