PepsiCo (Frito Lay sp. z o.o.) built a new snack production plant in the village of Święte in the municipality of Środa Śląska, a dozen or so kilometers from Wrocław. The cornerstone was laid on 26 August 2021, and the factory was officially opened on 31 May 2023. The value of the investment exceeded PLN 1 billion, making it the company's fifth production plant in Poland. The plant produces Lay's chips and — for the first time in Poland — Doritos corn chips, destined for 20 European markets. Target employment was planned at around 450 people. The facility is promoted as PepsiCo's most environmentally sustainable snack plant in Europe, with a goal of climate neutrality by 2035.

Significance

The plant is one of the largest FMCG-sector investments in Lower Silesia in recent years and PepsiCo's fifth production plant in Poland, described by the investor as PepsiCo's largest investment in the country. It launched production of Lay's chips from Polish potatoes and — for the first time in Poland — Doritos chips, some of which go to 20 European markets, strengthening the region's export role. The investment, worth over PLN 1 billion, ultimately created around 450 jobs (some later reports cite over 600 employed), mainly for residents of the region. The plant is positioned as PepsiCo's most environmentally sustainable snack plant in Europe, with a declared goal of achieving climate neutrality (zero emissions) by 2035.
