S17 Expressway Piaski – Hrebenne (border with Ukraine)

Construction of the missing eastern section of the S17 expressway from the Piaski interchange (beyond Lublin) to the border crossing with Ukraine at Hrebenne, carried out by GDDKiA under the "design and build" formula. The route completes the S17 corridor Warsaw – Lublin – Zamość – Tomaszów Lubelski – Hrebenne. The section is divided into several tasks carried out by various contractors; the first design-and-build contracts were signed in 2022, and further ones (including Piaski Wschód – Łopiennik) in 2024. Four sections remain under construction: Izbica – Zamość Sitaniec, Zamość Wschód – Zamość Południe, Zamość Południe – Tomaszów Lubelski, and Tomaszów Lubelski – Hrebenne (approx. 55 km in total). The bringing into service of the further sections is planned for the second half of 2028.

Significance

Once completed, the section will provide a grade-separated, expressway passage from Warsaw and Lublin through Zamość and Tomaszów Lubelski to the border crossing at Hrebenne, completing the S17 expressway to the border with Ukraine. The route will improve the road connection towards Ukraine and relieve the existing national road in that direction.
