The establishment and development of the Cyberspace Defense Forces (WOC) — the fifth branch of the armed forces, effectively created on 8 February 2022 under the Homeland Defense Act, together with accompanying investments in cryptology, cybersecurity and military ICT networks. The formation is centered around the Cyberspace Defense Forces Component Command and comprises approx. 6.5 thousand posts for soldiers and employees of the Ministry of National Defense, dispersed across more than a dozen units. Its structure includes specialized cyberspace operations units — "A" in Białobrzegi and "B" in Gdynia — and since 2024 a third unit "C" in Wrocław and the Operations Support Unit in Legionowo have been forming. The program covers the full spectrum of cyberspace operations: defensive, reconnaissance and offensive, and its technological financing is conducted under the technical modernization plan of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland.

Significance

The separation of cyberspace as an independent operational domain of the Polish Armed Forces and the building around it of a fifth branch of the armed forces with a strength of approx. 6.5 thousand posts. The dispersed network of cyberspace operations units (Białobrzegi, Gdynia, and Wrocław being formed), along with the cryptological and ICT support base, is intended to provide defensive, reconnaissance and offensive capabilities, as well as the development of domestic cryptographic tools and technologies. The program increases the resilience of military command and communications systems and critical infrastructure to cyberattacks, fitting into the technical modernization of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland for 2021-2035.
