Expansion of the President Lech Kaczyński LNG Terminal in Świnoujście

The second stage of the expansion of the LNG terminal in Świnoujście comprised the construction of a third tank with a capacity of approx. 180 thousand m³ and a second quay for the unloading, loading, and bunkering of LNG. Contracts with the contractors (the PORR/TGE consortium and the maritime part) with a total value of approx. PLN 1.9 billion were signed on 24 June 2020, with an original completion date at the end of 2023. The expansion was completed with a delay: from 1 January 2025 the terminal's regasification capacity increased from 6.2 to 8.3 billion m³ per year (compared with 5.0 billion m³ in 2015), and the ceremonial completion of the investment took place on 22 January 2025.

Significance

Following the expansion, the LNG terminal in Świnoujście has a regasification capacity of 8.3 billion m³ per year, corresponding to nearly half of the annual gas demand of domestic consumers — a key element in the diversification of supplies and Poland's energy security after cutting off imports from Russia. The investment received approx. PLN 461 million in EU funding from the 2014-2020 Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment (POIiŚ).
