A multifunctional municipal stadium in Wrocław, in the Pilczyce district (Aleja Śląska 1), built by the City of Wrocław as one of the arenas of the UEFA Euro 2012 European Football Championship. Construction began on 14 April 2009 (the signing of the construction contract with the executing consortium), and the facility was put into use — conditional admission by building supervision — on 8 September 2011; the first event was the Tomasz Adamek – Witalij Kłyczko boxing match on 10 September 2011. The stands hold 42,771 seats. The final construction cost amounted to approximately PLN 947 million. The facility is owned by the City of Wrocław, and its operator became the firm SMG; the arena's main user is the football club Śląsk Wrocław. Since 2021 the stadium has operated under the sponsorship name Tarczyński Arena Wrocław.

Significance

The Municipal Stadium in Wrocław was the largest sports investment in the city's history and one of four Polish stadiums built for UEFA Euro 2012 — the tournament co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine. Three group-stage matches of the tournament were played there, including one match featuring the Polish national team (16 June 2012). After the championship the facility became Wrocław's main entertainment and sports arena and the home stadium of the Śląsk Wrocław club, hosting league matches, concerts, and mass events. The final construction cost (approx. PLN 947 million) significantly exceeded the original estimates and the value of the first contract with the contractor (nearly PLN 730 million), which was the subject of disputes and subsequent financial settlements.
