A municipal football stadium in Gdańsk's Letnica district at ul. Pokoleń Lechii Gdańsk 1, built as one of the arenas for the UEFA Euro 2012 European Football Championship, co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine. Construction began on 28 May 2009; the facility received its occupancy permit on 19 July 2011, against an originally assumed completion date of the end of 2010. The construction cost amounted to PLN 709 million. The stadium, with its characteristic amber façade and a capacity of approx. 41,600 seats, is owned by the City of Gdańsk and managed by the company Arena Gdańsk Operator sp. z o.o. During Euro 2012, three group-stage matches and one quarter-final were played here; the facility is the home stadium of Lechia Gdańsk. In subsequent years it operated under sponsorship names (PGE Arena, Stadion Energa Gdańsk, Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk).

Significance

The stadium in Gdańsk was one of four Polish arenas of the UEFA Euro 2012 European Championship and the largest sports and entertainment investment in Gdańsk's history, built in the Letnica district as city property. During the tournament the facility hosted three group-stage matches (including Spain–Italy) and the Germany–Greece quarter-final. After Euro 2012 the stadium, with a capacity of approx. 41,600 seats, became a permanent sports and concert arena of the Pomorskie region and the home stadium of Lechia Gdańsk; the first league match was played there on 14 August 2011. Managed by the municipal company Arena Gdańsk Operator, in subsequent years it operated under changing sponsorship names.
