Expansion of the Water and Wastewater System of the Warsaw Agglomeration (Czajka, FEnIKS phase)
Phase VII of the programme "Water Supply and Wastewater Treatment in Warsaw", carried out by Warsaw's MPWiK with co-financing from the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment programme (FEnIKS 2021-2027, measure 1.3). It covers 38 tasks (including 33 infrastructure tasks) — the construction and modernisation of over 20 km of sewer networks and collectors in several districts, and, as part of Stage IV, the expansion and modernisation of the wastewater conveyance system to the Czajka treatment plant (two retention-transit collectors 2 m in diameter beneath the Vistula, connecting the "Nowodwory" and Żerań pumping stations). The co-financing agreement was signed in September 2024, and completion of the works is anticipated for 2028. This is a separate, current FEnIKS phase — it should not be confused with the earlier Phase VI (POIiŚ 2014-2020, approx. PLN 1.2 billion, agreement from 2017) or with the original expansion of the Czajka treatment plant completed in 2012.

Significance
The investment brings the Warsaw agglomeration closer to full sewerage coverage in accordance with Directive 91/271/EEC, increases the reliability of wastewater conveyance to the Czajka treatment plant, and connects over 1.6 thousand new customers to the sanitary sewerage network. The modernisation of key collectors (including Mokotowski Bis) using trenchless methods reduces the risk of failure of the conveyance system beneath the Vistula, whose faults have in the past led to wastewater discharges into the river.
