A ten-year investment program of the transmission system operator PSE, agreed with the President of the Energy Regulatory Office (URE) on 20 December 2024. It assumes estimated expenditure of over PLN 64 billion by 2034 on the construction of approximately 4,700 km of circuits of new 400 kV lines, 28 new electrical substations, and the modernization of 110 existing substations. The plan prepares the national transmission grid for a step change in the growth of renewable capacity and energy demand. Its successor — the draft plan for the years 2027–2036, with expenditure of approximately PLN 66 billion — was published in early 2026.

Significance

The program is intended to enable the transfer of power from approximately 18 GW of offshore wind farms, approximately 45 GW of photovoltaic sources and more than 19 GW of onshore wind farms, providing the potential to produce approximately 160 TWh of renewable energy annually. The expansion of approximately 4,700 km of 400 kV line circuits and 28 new and 110 modernized substations forms the backbone of Poland's energy transformation, including the construction of the first national direct-current (HVDC) link connecting the north with the south of the country.
