Comprehensive Revitalization and Expansion of the National Institute of Oncology in Warsaw
A multi-year government investment program (phase I) covering the revitalization and expansion of Poland's largest oncology center — the Maria Skłodowska-Curie National Institute of Oncology in Warsaw. The program, adopted in 2019 with a budget on the order of PLN 872 million (of which nearly PLN 740 million from the health minister's funds), envisages, among other things, the construction of a new clinical building and the relocation of medical operations from the complex on Wawelska Street to the facility on Roentgena Street. The original completion date (2024) was postponed — implementation was extended by three years, to 2028, due to, among other things, the difficult situation in the construction market and prolonged tender procedures. In parallel, in 2025–2026 the Institute secured over PLN 272 million for further investments, including a new outpatient clinic as well as digitalization and the use of AI in imaging diagnostics.

Significance
The program is to increase the treatment capacity of the country's oncology: a new clinical building is being constructed, and Poland's largest oncology facility — hospitalizing over 80,000 patients annually and providing over 370,000 outpatient consultations — is gaining modern, consolidated infrastructure. However, extending implementation to 2028 delays patients' access to the modernized facilities, and shifting the financing over time under inflationary conditions effectively reduces the value of the planned outlays.
