Veolia Nowa Energia Energy Recovery Plant (ITPO) in Łódź (EC4)
The Energy Recovery Plant — a thermal waste treatment plant with energy recovery (ITPO) being built by Veolia at the EC4 combined heat and power plant in the Widzew district of Łódź, at 5 Jadzi Andrzejewskiej Street. The plant, with a throughput of approximately 200 thousand tonnes of refuse-derived fuel (pre-RDF) per year, is intended to replace coal in the Łódź district heating system as part of the "Nowa Energia dla Łodzi" (New Energy for Łódź) program. The investor is the special-purpose company Veolia Nowa Energia. A construction permit was obtained in 2021, and start-up (production of heat and electricity) is planned for the fourth quarter of 2028. The estimated value of the investment exceeds one billion złoty.

Significance
The plant is intended to process approximately 200 thousand tonnes of refuse-derived fuel (pre-RDF) per year on two technological lines with a capacity of 100 thousand tonnes each, producing approximately 1.6 million GJ of heat (equivalent to the needs of approximately 20 thousand Łódź apartments) and approximately 146 thousand MWh of electricity per year. The project is part of the move away from coal in the Łódź district heating system under the "Nowa Energia dla Łodzi" program and is intended to make use of the calorific fraction of waste from the region.
