A bidirectional high-pressure gas pipeline connecting the Polish transmission system at the Strachocina node in Podkarpacie with the Slovak gas compressor station at Veľké Kapušany, delivered jointly by Gaz-System and the Slovak operator Eustream. On the Polish side it is approximately 61 km long (approximately 164 km in total), and its transmission capacity is 5.7 billion m3 per year towards Poland and 4.7 billion m3 towards Slovakia. Construction began in 2018, completion of works was announced on 26 August 2022 in Strachocina, and commercial operation was made available from 12 November 2022. The investment is part of the North–South gas corridor; its cost was estimated at approximately EUR 100 million.

Significance

The interconnector completes the southern section of the North–South gas corridor and increases the possibilities for cross-border gas transmission between Poland and Slovakia, strengthening supply diversification in the region. In the first years after commissioning, however, its commercial use remained low – according to press reports from the end of 2025 and from July 2026, the connection was in practice not being used, because the Slovak market maintained gas supplies from other directions (including Russian gas via Turkish Stream, and ultimately an Azerbaijani contract from 2027).
