Poland–Lithuania Gas Interconnection (GIPL)
A cross-border gas pipeline (interconnector) linking the Polish and Lithuanian transmission systems, delivered jointly by Gaz-System and the Lithuanian operator Amber Grid. The connection, more than 500 km long, runs from the Hołowczyce compressor station in Poland to the Jauniūnai compressor station in Lithuania, through the Podlaskie, Warmińsko-Mazurskie and Mazowieckie Voivodeships. The trilateral co-financing agreement was signed in 2015, construction was carried out in 2020–2022, and commercial gas transmission began on 1 May 2022; the ceremonial opening, attended by the presidents of Poland and Lithuania, took place on 5 May 2022. The pipeline was to reach full capacity in October 2022. Capacity toward Lithuania is approx. 2.4 billion m³/year, and toward Poland approx. 1.9 billion m³/year. The total cost of the project was approx. EUR 558 million, of which EUR 295.4 million was support from European Union funds.

Significance
The interconnector completed the link between the Polish and Lithuanian gas systems, forming a key element of the BEMIP plan and a concrete step toward ending the energy isolation of the Baltic states from the EU gas market. It enables bidirectional gas transmission between Poland and Lithuania (up to approx. 2.4 billion m³/year toward Lithuania and approx. 1.9 billion m³/year toward Poland), increasing supply diversification and energy security in the Baltic Sea region.
