Zwartowo Photovoltaic Farm (204 MWp)

Poland's largest photovoltaic farm, located in the village of Zwartowo in the Choczewo commune (Wejherowo County, Pomorskie Voivodeship), covering an area of about 300 ha. The first stage, with a capacity of 204 MWp, was built by the Polish company Respect Energy in cooperation with the German firm Goldbeck Solar and was officially opened at the end of September 2022. The estimated value of the investment is approximately EUR 200 million; financing was provided by a consortium of three banks (Pekao, PKO BP and EBRD). A further expansion of the complex to approximately 285–290 MWp is planned, and a separate Zwartowo III project envisages the construction of another farm with a capacity of 255 MWp together with an energy storage facility with a capacity of 184 MW, for which the company secured more than PLN 326 million in preferential financing from the National Recovery Plan (KPO).

Significance

Following completion of the first stage (204 MWp), the installation became the largest photovoltaic farm in Poland and one of the largest in Central and Eastern Europe. Ultimately it is to supply green energy to approximately 153 thousand households, generating around 230 GWh of energy annually. The subsequent expansion stages and the Zwartowo III project with its large-scale energy storage facility are intended to further increase the share of renewable energy sources in the power system in the Pomorskie region.
