CCGT Włocławek combined-cycle CHP plant (463 MW)

completed stage: operational
1.4 bn PLN
programme budget (multi-year) · data from 2017 ≈ 1.4 bn PLN (value-by-stage, est., nominal)

A CCGT combined-cycle unit in Włocławek with an electrical capacity of 463 MWe, built by PKN Orlen as Poland's first large-scale unit of this type. The installation operates in cogeneration, producing electricity as well as heat and process steam for the needs of the neighbouring Anwil chemical plant and the entire industrial complex in Włocławek; surplus electricity is fed into the National Power System. The general contractor was a consortium of General Electric and SNC-Lavalin Polska. The cornerstone was laid in April 2013, and the investment was completed — behind the original schedule — on 19 June 2017. Total capital expenditure was estimated at nearly PLN 1.4 billion. The unit's overall efficiency exceeds 60 percent.

Significance

Poland's first large-scale combined-cycle gas CHP plant (463 MWe), built by PKN Orlen. High-efficiency cogeneration (overall efficiency >60 percent) ensures security of supply of electricity and process steam for the Anwil plant and the entire industrial complex in Włocławek, while surplus power is directed to the National Power System. The investment strengthened the fuel group's presence in energy generation and became a model project for subsequent CCGT units built in Poland.
