Dolna Odra Combined-Cycle Gas Units (Gryfino) — 2x ~700 MW

The construction of two combined-cycle gas (CCGT) units, no. 9 and no. 10, at the Dolna Odra Power Plant Complex in Nowe Czarnowo near Gryfino (Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship), belonging to PGE Górnictwo i Energetyka Konwencjonalna of the PGE Group. Each unit has a rated gross electrical capacity of 683 MWe, for a total of approximately 1,366 MW of new gas-fired capacity. The investment was carried out by a consortium of General Electric (GE Vernova) as leader and Polimex Mostostal. Unit no. 9 was handed over for operation in August 2024, and unit no. 10 at the end of October 2024 — with a significant delay relative to the original deadline of December 2023.

Significance

The two combined-cycle gas units with a total capacity of approximately 1,366 MW replaced part of the aging coal-fired generating capacity and made the Dolna Odra power plant the largest gas-fired power plant in Poland. The investment strengthens security of energy supply in north-western Poland and provides flexible, dispatchable capacity balancing the growing share of renewable sources in the national power system.
