Combined-Cycle Gas Unit at the Żerań CHP Plant (Warsaw, 497 MW)
A combined-cycle gas unit with a gross electrical capacity of approximately 497 MWe (494 MWe) and a thermal capacity of 326 MWt, built at the Żerań Combined Heat and Power Plant in Warsaw (Mazowieckie Voivodeship) by PGNiG Termika (now ORLEN Termika). The general contractor was a consortium of Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Europe and Polimex Mostostal, and the investment value was approximately PLN 1.6 billion. The contractor handed the unit over for operation on 6 December 2021, and the unit began commercial operation on 13 December 2021. At the Żerań CHP plant, the unit serves as the baseload unit and replaced worn-out coal boilers, enabling the shutdown of nine coal boilers in total.

Significance
The commissioning of the combined-cycle gas unit made it possible to significantly reduce the role of coal in Warsaw's district heating system - the new unit, together with gas boiler houses, enabled the shutdown of nine coal boilers in total. The unit is designed to produce approximately 3 TWh of electricity and 1.9 TWh of heat annually, and according to the sponsor the investment lowers greenhouse gas emissions by more than 40 percent per unit of energy produced; CO2 emissions at the plant fall from approximately 95 to at least 56 kg per GJ of energy produced, strengthening security and improving the environmental performance of heat and power supply for Warsaw.
