Significance
Redzikowo is one of two land-based interceptor sites of the Aegis Ashore system in Europe (alongside Deveselu in Romania), completing NATO's ballistic missile defense architecture on the Alliance's eastern flank. With the achievement of readiness, the base extends protection against medium- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles to the northern part of the continent, and it is staffed by U.S. Navy personnel operating within NATO structures.
